This owl came to visit a dead tree on Wimett Lane, off Maiden Lane, last week. The photo was snapped by Brad Mathews, who says the bird was impressively big!
That is the neighborhood barred owl, I think. One morning early, 6:15, while it was still dark, it sat on my flower pot hanger 10 feet from my kitchen window, staring in at me for about 15 minutes. It was a really strange experience.

What a great shot! I like the way the light colors (sky, upper tree) connect with the bird, as if leading him/her into flight.
